Help with OffDuty
Start with the questions below. If none of them match, email us. A person reads every message.
Snoozing works from the app, Siri, or your home screen. The Bluetooth button is optional, and its questions are grouped separately further down.
Snoozing and cameras
What are all the ways to snooze?
- In the app. Open OffDuty and tap snooze.
- Siri. "Hey Siri, snooze my OffDuty cameras." The app doesn't open and your phone can stay in your pocket.
- Home screen. Press and hold the app icon, choose Snooze All.
- Shortcuts and Spotlight. For automations or the Action Button.
- A Bluetooth button. Optional, if you'd rather not touch the phone at all.
Each snooze is two minutes. Repeat to add more, up to ten.
Does snoozing disarm my system?
No. Snoozing pauses motion notifications, using the same snooze feature that already exists in your camera provider's app. Your system stays armed, recording is unchanged, and no setting is altered.
The countdown also runs on your provider's servers, not on your phone, so a dead battery or lost connection can't leave your cameras quiet.
Arming and disarming is a separate control, described below.
Can I arm or disarm from OffDuty?
Yes. Each system has its own arm control, and each camera has a control to turn motion detection on or off. These are deliberate features, not something snoozing does on your behalf.
Unlike a snooze, these have no timer. Disarm a system and it stays disarmed until you arm it again, exactly as it would if you had changed it in the Blink app. If you only want a couple of minutes of quiet, snooze instead.
What can OffDuty change in my camera account?
Snoozing, ending a snooze early, arming and disarming a system, and turning motion detection on or off for a camera. Nothing happens unless you ask for it.
It cannot delete clips, and it has no ability to change account, billing, or notification settings, or to add, remove, or rename cameras.
Which camera systems work?
Blink today. Other systems are planned. When one is added, your button keeps working exactly as it does now.
Blink keeps asking me to sign in again
Blink expires access periodically as a security measure and there's no way for us to extend it. Signing in again through the app restores everything, including your button targets.
Why can't I see a live view?
Blink's live streaming uses a proprietary protocol that only their own app can speak. Recent recorded clips play normally inside OffDuty.
I snoozed from the Blink app. Will OffDuty know?
Yes. OffDuty re-checks with Blink every twenty seconds while a snooze is running, so snoozes started, extended, or cancelled anywhere show up correctly in both apps.
The optional button
Only relevant if you've added a Bluetooth button. Snoozing from the app, Siri, or your home screen is unaffected by anything in this section.
My press didn't register
Press again. That fixes it almost every time. If it keeps happening, work through these in order:
- Check Location is set to "Always." In iOS Settings › OffDuty › Location. "While Using the App" is not enough to wake OffDuty when your phone is locked, and iOS sometimes downgrades this setting after an update.
- Check the button's battery on its detail screen in the app. A weak CR2032 shortens the broadcast and makes presses easier to miss.
- Get closer. Range drops off sharply through walls and doors.
- Check the app isn't force-quit. Swiping OffDuty out of the app switcher stops iOS from waking it. Reopen it once and leave it in the background.
Some background about why this happens at all: iOS heavily restricts Bluetooth scanning while your iPhone is locked, and there's no way for any app to opt out of that. OffDuty uses every wake-up mechanism Apple provides, and presses land reliably in everyday use, but no iPhone app can guarantee a Bluetooth press is detected every single time.
The app can't find my button during setup
- Hold the button within a few inches of your iPhone while setting up.
- Pull the battery tab, or open the case and reseat the CR2032.
- If the button was previously configured in the manufacturer's KBeaconPro app, it may have a custom password that blocks OffDuty. Factory reset it in KBeaconPro, then try Add Button again.
- Make sure it's a BlueCharm BC-B2. Other beacons and Bluetooth buttons aren't supported.
One press snoozes, then the next few do nothing
That's duplicate-press protection doing its job. A single physical press produces several Bluetooth broadcasts, so OffDuty ignores repeats within a short cooldown. If you genuinely want to extend a snooze, wait a moment and press again. The countdown grows by two minutes, up to ten.
You can turn the protection off in the app's settings, but most people shouldn't.
Privacy and permissions
Why does OffDuty want my location "Always"?
It only asks if you've added a Bluetooth button. Snooze from the app, Siri, or your home screen and OffDuty never requests location at all.
When you do add one: iOS only lets an app be woken by a Bluetooth beacon through its location APIs. That's the mechanism, not the intent. OffDuty watches for your button's identifier and nothing else. It never reads, stores, or transmits your coordinates, and no location data of any kind leaves your phone. The privacy policy spells out every field we collect.
Do you see my Blink password?
No. Sign-in happens on Blink's own page. Blink returns an access token, which stays in your iPhone's Keychain and is never sent to us. Your Blink name and email are displayed in the app but never transmitted to our servers.
How do I turn off analytics?
In the app, open settings and turn off Share Anonymous Analytics under Privacy. It takes effect immediately and nothing further is sent.

If none of the above solved it, write to support@offdutylabs.com. Including these makes a fix much faster:
- Your iPhone model and iOS version
- The OffDuty version, shown at the bottom of the app's settings screen
- What you expected to happen, and what happened instead
- Roughly when it happened. The app's activity log records presses and requests
Please don't include your Blink password. We will never ask for it.
