OffDuty

About

Why OffDuty exists

It started as a fix for a daily irritation, and turned out to be worth building properly.

Security cameras are very good at telling you something moved. They are not good at knowing it was you, carrying groceries, at six in the evening, again.

The usual answers are to live with the noise or switch the alerts off. Neither is satisfying: one trains you to ignore your own cameras, and the other quietly removes the reason you installed them. OffDuty is the third option: silence the alerts you already know about, and keep the ones you don't.

It is built and maintained by OffDuty Labs LLC. That shapes the app in a few ways worth knowing about.

What that means in practice

It doesn't want your account

OffDuty talks to the camera service you already use, with credentials you already have. We don't create an account for you, never see your password, and don't run a login server that could leak one. Signing in happens between your phone and your provider, not through us.

It doesn't track you

No advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics. Anonymous usage data goes to our own server so that crashes get found, it is never sold or shared, and there is an off switch in the app. The privacy policy lists every field collected, one by one.

Snoozing won't disarm anything

OffDuty pauses notifications using your provider's own snooze feature, and the countdown runs on their servers rather than on your phone, so a dead battery cannot leave your cameras quiet. Arming, disarming, and motion detection are separate controls that only change when you use them.

It's finished where it stops

The app does one thing and does it reliably. Anything that doesn't serve that gets left out. That is why there is no dashboard, no feed, and no subscription.
