Connecting Blink

Sign in once, pick your cameras, and you're done.

  1. Sign in to Blink

OffDuty opens Blink's own sign-in page. You type your Blink credentials into Blink's page, not into ours, so we never see your password. Blink hands back an access token, which OffDuty stores in your iPhone's Keychain and never transmits anywhere else.

If you have two-factor authentication turned on, Blink will text you a code as usual.

  2. Pick what a snooze covers

Your Blink systems and cameras appear in a list. Choose whether snoozing quiets everything, one system, or specific cameras. If you add a Bluetooth button later, each button can have its own target, such as a back-door button that only quiets the back-yard camera.

  3. Snooze

Motion notifications for the cameras you chose pause for two minutes. A countdown appears in the app. Repeat to add time, up to ten minutes.

What OffDuty can change in your Blink account

Snoozing is the main event, but the app gives you a few other controls. Nothing below happens unless you ask for it.

ActionWho triggers it
Snooze motion notificationsA tap, Siri, a shortcut, or a button press
End a snooze earlyYou, from the camera or system controls
Arm or disarm a systemYou, using the arm control on that system
Turn motion detection on or off for a cameraYou, using that camera's motion control
Delete clipsNever. The app has no delete capability at all
Change account, billing, or notification settingsNever
Add, remove, or rename camerasNever
Snoozing and disarming are not the same thing

A snooze pauses notifications for two minutes and expires by itself on Blink's servers, so a dead phone battery cannot leave your cameras quiet. Arming, disarming, and motion detection are separate controls with no timer: whatever you set stays set until you change it back, exactly as in the Blink app.

Snoozes made elsewhere

OffDuty checks in with Blink every twenty seconds while a snooze is running, so a snooze you start or cancel in the Blink app shows up correctly here, and vice versa. There's one source of truth and it isn't your phone.

Known Blink quirks

  • Live view isn't available in OffDuty. Blink's live streaming uses a proprietary protocol that only their own app can speak. Recent clips play fine.
  • Blink sign-in expires periodically. When it does, OffDuty tells you and you sign in again. This is Blink's policy, not something we can extend.
  • Cancelling a snooze early sets it to one minute rather than zero. That's the shortest value Blink's service accepts.
